TWO FIRST PLACES FOR TUFTS FAIL TO DEFEAT CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM

Although losing the first two places to the Doherty brothers, star runners for Tufts, the University scored a 45 to 69 win against the Medford team yesterday in the first cross-country meet of the season.

Joseph Doherty of Tufts was the first man to place, with Captain John Doherty right on his heels. The time was 34 minutes 3 seconds, although a few seconds were gained when the first few men unintentionally cut a part of the course.

A. L. Coburn Jr. '24 was the first University man to place, coming in 29 seconds after Captain Doherty. He was closely followed by J. W. Burke '23. The fight for fifth place was the closest of the race, W. L. Chapin '25 drawing ahead of R. A. Lutz '23 almost at the finish.

Twenty-five seconds later Wankovitz of Tufts came in, with Captain B. L. Pratt Jr. '23 closely behind him. The next four places were also taken by University harriers, E. G. Lund '23 taking ninth place, D. S. Muzzey Jr. '23 tenth, T. S. Hanington '23 eleventh, D. B. Mooney 2E.S. twelfth, and F. McC. Cobb '25 thirteenth. Five other, Tufts runners finished.
