Coach Claflin's University hockey squad scrimmaged the M. I. T. sextet for 30 minutes yesterday afternoon in the Arena, showing marked superiority in every department of the game and holding the Engineers scoreless. The Crimson combination was a great deal strengthened by the return to center of Martin, who has been resting during the last two days.
Principally on account of the poor condition of the ice the University men did not play as smoothly as they did Thursday against the B. A. A. sextet. The passes went awry on the rough surface, and speedy skating and good stick-work were also materially hampered. As Coach Claflin does not intend to give his men any work over the weekend there will be no further practice until Monday.
With Thursday's cut taken into consideration Coach Claflin now has 15 men left on his squad: three full forward lines and two complete defensive combinations. The three forward lines in order of their present merit are as follows:
First Line.-Left wing, Walker; center, Martin; right wing, Baker.
Second Line.-Left wing; Hill; center, Phillips; right wing, Larocque.
Third Line.-Left wing, Angier; center Lamont; right wing, Cabot.
The two defensive combinations are:
Regulars.-Left defense, Crosby; right defense, Owen; goal, Higgins.
Second String.-Left defense, Craves; right defense, Gratwick; goal, Flint.
It has been definitely settled that a game will be played between the Crimson and Dalhousie University a week from this evening at the Arena. The Canadians will face M. I. T. on the preceding night and Coach Claflin's players should be able to gain a good idea of their opponents' strength from the showing made in this contest. Efforts are still being made to arrange a game for the middle of next week with some team in the immediate vicinity of Boston.
