MANY MORE CANDIDATES REPORTING FOR TRACK DRILL THAN LAST YEAR

Winter track practice is now well under way. Fifteen additional candidates reported to Coach Bingham yesterday, bringing the total up to 140. Of this number, 80 are out for the University team, and will be under the personal supervision of Coach Bingham, while 60 are candidates for the 1925 team. These figures show a decided increase over last year's record of 100 candidates, when 50 reported for each squad.

As winter track practice is held primarily to condition men for the more intensive training in the spring, there will probably be no cut in the squad. The coaches will give the candidates individual instruction and will watch each man carefully. If possible, everyone will be given the opportunity to compete in some meet and consequently will secure much experience that should prove valuable in the spring. Coach Bingham expects to divide the squad into groups on Saturday, and definite times for the men to report each day will be posted.

Hold Light Work-Outs

Light work-outs were held yesterday underneath the Stadium, but the board track, which was under construction during the past week, has been completed and will be ready for use today. More candidates are needed, especially for the field events. Regular work-outs for the board-jumpers, high-jumpers, shot-putters and weight men are now being held in the cage. Coach E. L. Farrell, who has been unable to be present for several days on account of illness is expected to return today and will assume full charge of the instruction in this department. Under the direction of R. W. Harwood '21, a member of last year's track team and a member of the 1920 Olympic team, the pole-vaulters are holding regular practice sessions in the cage. A special evening class will be formed for candidates for this event, the new period going into effect early next week.
