The University fencing team will hold its first meet of the season this afternoon when it faces the M. I. T. team at 2.30 o'clock in the Walker Gymnasium at M. I. T. The fencers for the University will be Captain Burke Boyce '22, E. H. Lane '24, and E. L. Lane '24 for the foils, and J. S. Barss '22 and F. W. Saunders '24 with duelling swords. J. K. Watson '23 will accompany the team as a substitute in the latter division.
The fencing team this year faces a longer and more difficult schedule than any which has been arranged in the last five or six years. It will have a meet every Saturday, beginning today, until March 18. These include matches with Columbia and Yale, to be held at Cambridge. The season will close with the Intercollegiates on March 30 and 31.
The team begins its season with excellent prospects. It has two experienced fencers in Captain Boyce and W. R. Brewster '22, who is unable to play today. E. H. Lane '24 and E. L. Lane '24, who have had little mat experience, have shown up well in practice, and defeated their men in the match with the Informal Navy team on December 17.
