YEARLING FIVE FIGHTS WAY TO VICTORY OVER TUFTS FRESHMEN TEAM

Displaying flawless team-work and sound offensive power, the 1925 basketmen fought their way to victory over the Tufts Freshman team yesterday afternoon in the Freshman Athletic Building. Team-play was the key-note of the yearling's success, which combined with a sesational come-back in the closing minutes of play, served to out-point and and finally defeat the formidable Tufts aggregation, 38-33.

Individual honors go without question to Wilson, the visitors' talented right guard, who in addition to caging eight baskets from the floor by his accurate long-distance shooting, tallied 13 times from the foul line, being personally responsible for 29 of his team's total of 33 points. For the Crimson, A. W. Samborski and Samson Merr'am were consistent point winners, the latter playing especially well in his capacity of forward.

During the entire first period points were nearly evenly divided, Coach Tolbert's men having a slight edge when the whistle blew for the end of the half. The University Freshmen scored first on a short basket by J. F. King, but Wilson soon evened matters up with two accurated tosses from the foul line.

Tufts showed their full strength in the second period, when, with Wilson again dominating the floor, the visitors rolled up a substantial lead before Coach Tolbert's players had a chance to recover from the effect of their oppnoents' whirlwind attack. With defeat near at hand, the Crimson yearlings staged an impressive and effectual rally. Baskets by King, Merriam, and J. L. Scully, aided by the efficient work of Samborski from the foul line, served to cut down the visitors' lead, and five minutes to play found the two quintets deadlocked with the count 25 all. It was in these closing moments that the Crimson Freshmen opened up with their sensational offence, scoring basket after basket, and though the visitors also unleashed a threatening attack, the final whistle found them trailing, 38-33.
