On Monday, the opening day of the annual University fall tennis singles tournament, as many as possible of the first round matches will be played off on the Jarvis Field courts. The doubles tournament, however, will not start until Wednesday. Both are open to all members of the University, including students in the graduate schools.
The winner of the singles tournament is awarded the title of University, tennis champion, and also has his name inscribed on the cup presented by Mrs. Jackson, and retains possession of the cup for a year. In addition, he wins permanent possession of a medal awarded by the H. A. A. Last year the singles tournament was won by H. R. Guild 2L.; the doubles by Burnham Dell 1G. and J. B. Fenno Jr. '21.
Singles Entries Close Tomorrow
Entries for both tournaments may be made in blue books at Leavitt & Peirce's. Entries for the singles tournament close tomorrow at 6 P. M.; but doubles entries will be received up to 10 P. M. Monday. Courts will be free for all players in the tournament. Balls must be furnished by the entrants.
Besides determining the champion, the tournament is intended to furnish information on the prospective material for next spring's University and Freshman teams. The tournament will be followed by a series of interclass matches which will give further information concerning candidates for the team.
To Hold Indoor Practice
After Christmas, '15 men will be taken to the indoor courts at Longwood for practice, and the team which makes the southern trip during the Easter vacation is chosen from this group. Since the selection is made on the basis of performance in the fall tournament and inter class matches, it is essential that all who desire to try for the team enter the tournament, which will take the place of fall practice.
