FALL BASEBALL WORK STARTS TODAY AT 2.30

Coach Slattery and Captain Conlon to Speak to Candidates at Meeting in Locker Building--Pitching Material Needed

Fall practice for the University baseball team will start this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock when all candidates report at the Locker Building. At this time Coach Slattery and Captain Conlon will speak to the men, emphasizing the points which will be given special attention this fall. The fall schedule will include several informal games with semi-professional and bank nines. Work will be carried as long as the weather permits, probably until about the first week in November.

Although most of last season's team will be back, Coach Slattery hopes to have a large squad at work this fall and is especially in need of players who have had any pitching experience. New men will receive the benefit of close and individual coaching by members of the 1921 team.

As a nucleus for this year's infield, Coach Slattery will have George Owen '23 at first base, Captain A T. Conlon '22 at short and E. C. Lincoln '22 at third while in the outfield H. C. Janin '22, F. W. Crocker '22, L. A. Hallock '22, D. F. Thayer '23 will be available. E. F. Goode '22, a two years veteran, and H. S. Russell '22 will be the mainstays in the box, with J. D. Murphy '22 behind the bat. Several members of the 1924 nine showed promise last spring of being first-string material. Inasmuch as several of these baseball men are now playing football, the team this fall will present quite a different line-up.
