HARVARDVERMONT Lincoln, 3b. c.f., Sullivan Emmons, 2b. 3b., Harris Conlon, s.s. 1b., McGinnis Owen, Lee, 1b. l.f., Burns Janin, r.f. rf., Tryon Hallock, c.f. c., Spillane Murphy, c. s.s., Conlin, Duba Buell, Crocker, r.f. 2b., Brock Russell, p. p., Newton, Kerwan
With seven veterans in their line-up, the University of Vermont team will take the field this afternoon against the Crimson nine on Soldiers Field at 3 o'clock.
The visitors had a very strong team last year and put the University down to defeat by a 2-1 score. Newton, who will probably start in the box, is one of a powerful pitching staff that has given the best Eastern college teams difficulty this spring. Duba, used sometimes at shortstop, is also reliable as a mounds man, and Kerwan is a third pitcher who may be called on. The last named played a clever all around game at second base for the visitors last year. Captain Spillane, behind the bat, is considered one of the best of the season's college catchers and a dangerous better.
Lost to Elis and Tigers
In early season games the Vermonters were nosed out by the Princeton team and also by Yale. They defeated Lehigh in their best showing of the year, and have lost twice by close scores to Holy Cross, which is considered to have the leading college team of the year and which the University is scheduled to play next Saturday at Worcester.
Coach Slattery will use Russell on the mound today since Goode will be sent against Holy Cross. A change in the line-up will be tried, by which Janin will bat fifth in place of Murphy. Janin has come through with several timely singles in the last few games, and by batting higher in the order he is expected to add to the attack. On account of a slight injury to his hand, Owen may be given a rest today, with Lee on first base. The latter has been a substitute outfielder most of the season. Buell will play in right-field provided the opposing pitcher is a southpaw, otherwise Crocker will be there.
Action on Blair Case
The following statement was issued last night by F. W. Moore '93, Graduate Treasurer of the Athletic Association, in relation to the recent case of insubordination on the baseball team:
The Graduate Baseball Advisory Committee at a meeting last night approved the action of Captain Emmons and Coach Slattery in dismissing Austin Blair '21 from the baseball squad for breaking training and for inexcusable insubordination at the Penn game Saturday. The Committee also recommended that Blair's "H" be taken away from him permanently.
