OVERSEERS MEET MAY 9-10

The Overseers of the University plan to study the present system of instruction in the College and the new principles adopted for education in the humanities when they meet at Cambridge on May 9 and 10 for their regular two-day spring session.

President Lowell, Professor George G. Wilson, Roger B. Merriman '96, G. H. Edgell '09, John L. Lowes, H. H. Burbank '15 and other will outline to the Board the history of the elective system and tell of its expansion and limitation in the past half century. The Board will also hear in detail about the general examination now required for graduation from the College, about the new tutorial system and how it works, and about the new plans for required reading in literature.

Every spring the Overseers hold a two-day meeting and in addition to transacting their regular business make a close study of some one aspect of life in the University. Last year they were told of the contributions of the University to original research.
