Major General David C. Shanks, U. S. A., Commanding General of the First Corps Area, has accepted an invitation to speak in Sanders Theatre at the University's commemorative exercises on Memorial Day.
The exercises this year will be in the joint charge of the Harvard memorial Society and the James A. Shannon Post of the American legion. In the past, the annual Memorial Day celebration has always been under the auspices of the Memorial Society. Last year, however, it was in charge of a committee representing the University, and was held on a much larger scale than usual, as a special tribute to the 369 University men who lost their lives in the war with Germany. This year the conduct of the exercises will revert to the Memorial Society, with the James A. Shannon Post also participating in the direction of them for the first time.
