Mr. Lawrence La Tourette Driggs, president of the American Flying Club, will speak in the Living Room of the Union at 8 o'clock on Thursday, March 24, on "Flying Exploits of 1920." An expert on aviation long before the war so greatly increased the number of aviators, he will illustrate his speech with moving pictures of exceptional interest and thrill and will discuss his part in the bridging of the Atlantic and the continent by aeroplane.
Mr. Driggs has followed flying since 1909. He has specialized in war aviation and has written several well-known books on the subject, notably "Arnold Adair, Amercia Ace", and "Heroes of Aviation". He visited the war fronts in 1914, 1916 and 1918. On the last occasion he was the official guest of the British government. During the last six months of the war he visited practically every aeroplane squadron on the battle front from Belgium to Switzerland-the only American thus honored. His acquaintance among the war aviators was exceptionally wide.
Mr. Driggs was instrumental in starting the transoceanic trip of the Nc-4, and was a friend of Brigadier-General Maitland, who piloted the R-34 across the Atlantic. He was the organizer of the two greatest races of 1919, the one between New York and Toronto, and the transcontinental flight between New York and San Francisco.
