GOMPERS TO LECTURE HERE

President of A. F. of L. Will Discuss Labor Problems Including "Open Shop" at Union on March 10

Samuel Gompers, President of the American Federation of Labor, will speak at the Union under the auspices of the Student Liberal Club on Saturday, March 10, according to an announcement by the officers of the Liberal Club. Mr. Gompers will discuss the question of labor and capital, dealing largely with the question of the Open Shop. It was at first planned to have Elbert H. Gary, President of the United States Steel Corporation, debate the question with Mr. Gompers, but Mr. Gary was unable to accept the invitation to speak, and rather than have a man of secondary rank debate, the club decided to have Mr. Gompers alone.

Mr. Gompers has been an advocate of the rights of labor and connected with the efforts to organize the working people since 1855, was one of the founders of the American Federation of Labor, and has been its President, except for one year, since 1882.
