By winning all five of its matches against the Newton Centre Squash Tennis Club Saturday, the University squash team "A" moved into first place in the upper division of the Massachusetts Squash Racquets Association with a percentage of nine matches won and one lost. The University displaced the Union Boat Club although the latter defeated the Harvard Club in a close match. Coach Cowles considers the chances of a successful season much brightened, but as yet the team has not been tested by meeting stiff opposition in foreign courts.
Except for the match between D. McK. Key '22 and R. C. Bray, which went into four games, all the contests at Newton Centre were won by the University players in straight games. The scores were:
D. McK. Key defeated R. C. Bray, 15-10, 15-8, 9-15, 15-9; R. E. Smith '22 defeated J. W. Cook, 18-16, 17-14, 15-9; Malcolm Bradlee '22 defeated R. C. Cook, 15-10, 15-11, 15-10; Myles P. Baker '22 defeated Eliot Church, 15-9, 15-12, 15-10; E. M. Hinkle '23 defeated Paul Goddard, 16-14, 16-14, 15-10.
