The last competition open to Sophomores and the first open to Freshmen in the News and Photographic Departments of the CRIMSON will start Wednesday evening, December 14, with a meeting at 7 o'clock in the Crimson Building, 14 Plympton street. The competition, which will last about 12 weeks, will not require any work during the Christmas recess; candidates will be allowed ample free time during the mid-year examination period to prepare for their examinations.
Work in the news competition will consist of gathering and writing the news of the University. The work required is necessarily difficult but is interesting and gives a wide and intimate knowledge of all the activities of the University and the men engaged in them. The competition is conducted on a point basis, twice as much credit being given for scoops as for assignments.
Candidates for the photographic competition must supply their own cameras, but a well equipped dark-room for all developing and printing work is available to candidates at the Crimson Building.
Although both the news and photographic competitions are run on a point basis, election to the board will be determined not only by points, but on a candidate's general all around ability and usefulness to the paper.
