1925 BASKETBALL STARTS

Sixty-Three Candidates Report to Coaches Wachter and Tolbert at Meeting in Freshman Gym.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The freshman basketball season started yesterday afternoon when 63 candidates for the team reported to Coaches Wachter and Tolbert at a meeting in the Freshman Athletic Building.

Coach Wachter, making the first address, outlined briefly the plans for the coming season and urged upon the men the three essentials to a successful season, condition, teamwork, and spirit. Coach Tolbert then accented the importance of these last two points, showing that in every branch of sport, the University system of coaching depends upon mutual cooperation and team-work rather than in the work of any individual stars.

For the present practice will be held daily at five o'clock under the direction of Coach Tolbert, and it is probable that no division into teams will be made for at least a week.

More men are needed for the managership competition which also started yesterday. The competition will end February 22 and the winner will become freshman basketball manager as well as receiving his numerals. Men entering late will be in no way handicapped and should report at the Freshman Athletic Building this afternoon at five o'clock.
