The University basketball season will open with a meeting of all candidates for the University squad in the Hemenway Gymnasium at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Coach E. A. Wachter Jr. and Captain A. E. MacLeish Jr. '23 will address the players, outlining the plans for the work of the season. Actual practice will start tomorrow afternoon. Candidates from the Sophomore class for the second assistant managership of the University team will meet in Randolph 41 at 7.15 o'clock this evening.
A large number of men are expected at the meeting this afternoon. Seven letter men, as well as the whole of the 1924 team, will be on hand so that experienced players and substitutes are available for all positions. Intensive work will get under way immediately, as the first game of the season, that with Connecticut Agricultural College is scheduled for December 6, leaving a scant two weeks in which to condition the m en and to develop a combination of offensive and defensive strength from the large number of candidates that will be eligible.
Freshman will start work soon, probably at the beginning of next week; manager candidates from 1925 will be called out at the same time. J. R. Tolbert 1L., Captain of last season's University five, will help Coach Wachter with the Yearlings, who will practice in the Freshman Athletic Building. The 1925 schedule has not as yet been completed, but will probably include a contest with the Yale Freshmen, as well with the principal preparatory school fives in the vicinity.
