In its first practice game for the fall season, the University baseball team easily defeated Northeastern College by a score of 8 to 3 in a six-inning game. Coach Slattery started Bemis in the box, with Larrabee, last year's Freshman catcher, behind the bat. Acting Captain Lincoln, who played third, was the only member of last season's nine to play. Worthington covered shortstop's position, while Bullard and Norris of last year's yearling team played at second and first bases respectively. Thayer and Clark of last year's squad, and Kogers, another yearling recruit, composed the outfield.
The Crimson nine, though it made several errors, was constantly on its toes and turned in some fast plays. The University started out in the first with a rush and piled up a four-run lead. Lincoln walked, while and error advanced him to second and put Thayer on first. Bullard and Clark then came through with texas leaguers to center, scoring Lincoin and Thayer. Well placed bunts by Rogers and Norris resulted in two more tallies.
The visitors made their best bid for winning by filling the bases with none out in the second. However, fast work completed by Lincoin to Norris to Larrabee resulted in a doubled play.
In the third and fourth innings Coach Slattery started putting in substitutes. Sughrue and then Blair took up the pitching duties, and held the visitors to one taily. The University will meet Northeastern College again some time next week.
