DETERMINATION AND CONFIDENCE KEYNOTES OF HARD PRACTICE

The gruelling practices through which Coach Fisher is sending his men this week came to a climax yesterday afternoon when the University gridiron men were put through two driving scrimmages, one against Coach Knox's scrubs and the other with the Freshman Saturday's game against Penn State is of the season and both men and coaches are determined that the team refute the mediocre showing of the past two Saturdays.

The feeling in the Stadium this week is one of determination and confidence. The coaches admit that in order to defeat Penn State the team must show a great improvement over the play against Georgia but they are confident that the two heavy scrimmages of yesterday and the day before have already wrought the necessary change.

Churchill Gets Away for 35 Yards

When the black jerseys were called on the field yesterday, Team A lined up against them as follows: Hartley and Janin, ends; Hobson and Ladd, tackles; Hubbard and Brocker, guards; Bradford, center; Conlon at quater, while Rouillard, Chapin and Churchill completed the backfield. For almost half an hour the encounter lasted, the only score coming when Churchill broke loose in mid-field and dashed 35 yards before he was downed a scant dozen yards before the seconds' goal. On the next play Conion tossed a pass to Howe who tore 8 yards for a touchdown.

As the University lined up against Coach Campbell's Yearlings several changes were visible in the line-up. Macomber had replaced Hartley on one wing, Captain Kane and Tierney went in at tackle, while Brown took Brocker's place at guard. Kernan was put in the pivot position but was taken out soon after because of a shoulder injury. Owen went in for Rouillard while Johnson replaced Conion as field general.

Although the Cubs fought hard they were no match for their more experienced opponents who drove over two scores in the course of the work-out. The first came when Macomber half blocked a punt which Churchill grabbed

up and tore over the line after dodging through the entire 1925 team. The second tally came after a 35-yard run by Owen who was only stopped seven yards from the goal. Three more plays sufficed to score, Chapin talking the ball over.

Several of the regulars are still on the side-lines. Gehrke was not dressed yesterday because of a cut received Tuesday but will be back in the line-up tomorrow. Fitts and Crocker were both still too lame to scrimmage but will probably be ready for use against Penn State. Jenkins was slightly damaged in some of the preliminary work but his injury is not expected to be serious. Tierney was back in unifoorm but was only allowed in the scrimmage for a few plays.

Coach Fisher does not expect to hold further scrimmages this week as last minute injuries at this time might prove a fatal handicap on Saturday. The rest of the week, therefore, will be devoted to signal practice, dummy scrimmage and to the perfection of defence against Penn State plays
