Two collections of extremely rare books are now on view in the Treasure Room of the Widener Library. One of the exhibits is composed of old volumes, many of which are autographed by their original owners. Among the signatures appearing are those of John Bunyan, John Milton, Ben Jonson, Goethe, Wordsworth, and Swift. An old Latin testament, Bunyan's Bible, and many original works of historical interest are also in this exhibit.
The other collection is made up of early eighteenth century school books, among which is the famous New England primer, twentieth century copies of which may be obtained at the desk for fifty cents. Several specimens of the old-fashioned Horn-Book are also on view. These are wooden boards to which alphabets, prayers, or other reading matter is fixed, and over which a piece of glass is placed to protect the printing.
The famous Welch collection of European Military medals is still on view in the same room. Many of the medals are intricate in design and of unusual scarcity.
