TWO COMPETITIONS START TOMORROW AT 7

REPORT AT CRIMSON BUILDING

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Tomorrow evening at 7 o'clock, candidates from the Freshman and Sophomore classes will be given an opportunity to compete for the news board of the CRIMSON in a competition which will last not more than twelve weeks. This is the first competition under the new plan of no night duty in the print shop and continuous competitions. The work will be arranged so that it will not interfere with preparation for midyear examinations. At the same time, a competition open to Freshmen and Sophomores will be held for the Photographic Department.

The work of the news competition will consist almost entirely of gathering and writing up news, as most of the routine work has been eliminated with the abolition of night duty. This gives the candidates more time to get special articles or interviews with prominent men who visit Boston or New York. The covering of news in the University gives candidates an intimate acquaintance with the men prominent in all phases of the life of the University, both athletic and academic. No previous journalistic experience is necessary.

The successful candidates will be elected to the news board, and will become eligible for the position of managing editor and president. Editors will also be allowed to write dramatic and literary reviews. Editors assigned to a sport will accompany the various teams on trips and will receive special reimbursement in addition to having their expenses paid.

Men competing for positions on the photographic board will be sent out to take pictures of University activities. A completely equipped dark-room is available for the use of the candidates. The successful competitors are eligible for the position of photographic chairman.
