Increase of the stipend granted to Rhodes scholars from 300 pounds to 350 pounds a year was announced yesterday by Frank Aydelotte of the Institute of Technology, American secretary of the Rhodes Scholarships. The trustees regard the additional 50 pounds as a bouns and not as a permanent addition to the scholarship because they cannot be certain either of the value of money in the future or of their own capacity to continue it indefinitely. Nevertheless the bonus will not be withdrawn without adequate notice nor in any case where a candidate has been elected in expectation of receiving it. Out of the 63 men who entered Oxford this fall on Rhodes Scholarships seven were from the University, representing Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Nevada, North Carolina and Wisconsin. These men will all be affected by the 50 pounds raise in the scholarship fund.
