LAMONT TO SPEAK ON SITUATION IN CHINA AND JAPAN

As the seventh speaker in the Union's main series of lectures especially for its members, Mr. Thomas William Lamont '92, well-known banker and business man, will talk on "The Political Situation in China and Japan" in the Living Room at 8 o'clock this evening. Mr. Lamont has chosen this subject because of its present day interest and because he has lately returned from an extended tour through the Far East, where he represented the American Group in completing the arrangements of the Consortion of China. He will bring some special new maps to aid in clarifying his points. Mr. George Wigglesworth '74, member of the Board of Overseers and President of the Union, will preside and introduce Mr. Lamont at this meeting.

While in college, Mr. Lamont was President of the CRIMSON and took a prominent part in many other undergraduate activities. Upon graduation he became a reporter on the New York Tribune and later secretary and treasurer of the Bankers' Trust Company. Mr. Lamont has been a member of the firm of J. P. Morgan and Company since 1911 and is now director of many large companies and corporations. He is also owner of the New York Evening Post and a trustee of Phillips Exeter Academy and Smith College, while lately he has been joint chairman of the Harvard Endowment Fund with Eliot Wadsworth '98.

Conduct Chapel This Morning

Mr. Lamont arrived in Boston last night in order to be in Cambridge to conduct the chapel service this morning. He will attend the morning and afternoon sessions of the meeting of the Board of Overseers, of which he has been a member since 1912, and will also be present at a luncheon of the Board in the Union at 1 o'clock. Members of the Faculty and a number of prominent graduates are among the guests invited to be present at a dinner in the Trophy Room of the Union at 7 o'clock this evening, given in Mr. Lamont's honor by the Governing Board of the Union.
