BILL BINGHAM CHOSEN TO COACH CINDER MEN

W. J. Bingham '16, captain of the University track team in 1916, has been appointed supervisor of track athletics to take the place of Dr. Charles Whelan, who resigned last spring. His appointment puts track on the same basis as football in respect to its coaching system, as both sports now have a University graduate at the head of the staff. While in College Bingham ran the halfmile and was one of the most sensational runners the University has had in many years. From his Freshman year, when he won the half-mile in the Yale meet in one minute 58 1-5 seconds, setting a new dual record, Bingham was one of the Crimson's most dependable point winners.

In his Senior year Bingham was a member of the quartet which won the intercollegiate relay at the Pennsylvania carnival. In the race with Cornell he captured the half-mile coming within one second of the intercollegiate record of that time. He was again victor in his race in the Yale meet, but in the intercollegiates was defeated by the famous Ted Meredith, who broke the I. C. A. A. A. A. record by his win.

Coaches Donavan and Farrell will, of course, be retained on the coaching staff.
