CANDIDATES OUT IN FALL

Four CRIMSON competitions will begin on Friday, October 1, next fall, and will be open to members of the classes of 1922 and 1923. Sophomores will be eligible to compete for positions on the news, business and photographic boards, while Juniors will be eligible only for the editorial board. On this date meetings will be held in the Crimson Building on Plympton street, when the heads of the various boards will outline the work.

The news competition will last about 12 weeks; the work will consist of gathering the news of the University and writing up the athletic events. This competition offers an excellent opportunity for building up a wide and intimate knowledge of all the activities of the University. No previous journalistic experience is required. Successful competitors will be elected news editors of the CRIMSON, and will be eligible for the positions of managing editor and president.

The editorial competition is open only to Juniors, and offers them their last chance to make the CRIMSON, except for the spring editorial competition. The candidates will be expected to write two editorials a week at first, and more later when the competition narrows down. This competition will also last for about 12 weeks.

Business Competition Starts Early

The business department will start its competition, open to members of the class of 1923, during the first week of College. It will last about 14 weeks, and the work will consist chiefly of soliciting subscriptions and advertisements, and a small amount of clerical work. It offers excellent opportunity for business training and acquaintance with the major New England firms. Successful competitors will be eligible for the position of business manager in their Senior year.

In the photographic competition, which is open only to members of the class of 1923, election to the board will be made on the basis of the number of pictures published in the fortnightly pictorial supplement. Pictures of interest to members of the University taken this summer will help the candidates for this department. The dark room, with complete developing and printing equipment, in the Crimson Building will be available for use.
