UPPER CLASSMEN DEFEAT FRESHMEN IN GYMKHANA

"Except for the jumping, the showing made by the men was excellent, said Captain Goetz at the end of the Artillery Unit's first annual gymkhana yesterday. "The jumps were of an entirely new variety, however, and neither men nor horses were used to them."

The men competed in six events, first and second places in each event counting towards the total score. Military Science II won the meet, taking both the tug of war and the mounted wrestling contests.

The individual star of the gymkhana was C. E. Dupee '22, who took first place in the musical stalls, and was a member of the winning teams in the obstacle race, in the mounted tug of war, and in the mounted wrestling. E. D. Sage '23 was the second best rider of the meet, taking first place in the jumping competition and gaining four points as a member of the winning relay team. The third general riding prize was taken by A. G. Tuckerman '22.

A large number of guests were present at the gymkhana, including General C. C. Edwards, commanding officer of the Northeastern Department, and members of his-staff. The University Band played during the meet.

The summary:

Musical Stalls--Won by C. E. Dupee '22; second, A. G. Tuckerman '22.

Relay Race--Won by team composed of G. K. Wakefield '22, E. D. Sage '23, H. W. Hardy '22 and A. Loring '22.

Obstacle Race--Won by C. E. Dupee '22 and E. K. Bragg '23.

Mounted Tug of War--Won by Military Science II in two heats, 15 2-5s. and 11 1-2s. respectively.

Jumping Contest--Won by C. E. Sage '23; J. Caswell '20, second.

Mounted Wrestling--Won by Military Science II in 1m. 13 2-5s.

The standing of the leading individuals is as follows: C. E. Dupee '22, 12 points; E. D. Sage '23, 9 points; A. G. Tuckerman '22, 7 points; H. W. Hardy '22, 6 points; A. Loring '22, 6 points.
