CAPTAIN GOETZ ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR MEMORIAL DAY

The part to be played by the University R. O. T. C. Field Artillery Unit in the Memorial Day program, was announced yesterday by Captain R. C. F. Goetz, Professor of Military Science and Tactics.

A large number of the men taking the Military Science courses will take part in the exercises, of whom 45 will be picked as a mounted escort to General Pershing. The men will be chosen on their ability as riders.

Besides the escort, a dismounted color guard and a gun squad will be selected. The gun squad will fire two salutes, one in the Stadium at noon, the regular Memorial Day salute of 21 guns; the other of 17 guns in the Yard, at the time of General Pershing's arrival.

Uniforms will be issued to the Unit on Thursday. The men who are to be in the mounted escort will probably have some extra equitation periods next week.

Captain Goetz to Go South

Captain R. C. F. Goetz and 1st Lieutenant J. B. Dick of the Military Department of the University have been detailed by the War Department as instructors at the Field Artillery R.O.T.C. Summer Camp, which opens at Camp Knox, Kentucky, on June 17. This duty will not interfere with their work at the University, but is part of the regular custom of the War Department of assigning officers as instructors for the annual summer camps.
