After the first two rounds of the Harvard Interscholastic Tennis Tournament which were played Saturday on the Jarvis Field courts, the situation is generally what had been expected by the dopesters, with one exception. This surprise was furnished when Bonner, playing 7 on the Exeter team, defeated Crosby, the star captain of the Andover sextet, in the third round, by the wide margin of 6-1, 6-2. By this victory Bonner is now a formidable player in the fourth round, one before the semi-finals. Living up to expectations, W. W. Ingraham of the Woonsocket High School won from DuBois of Milton in the first round, and A. W. Jones of Moses Brown School gained the third round by victories over Buck of Exeter and Leavitt of Huntington.
As a result of the matches already played, Exeter leads the field with 9 points; the nearest rival is Andover with 4. Moses Brown School follows with 3, Newton High School has 2, and Woonsocket, Huntington, and Browne and Nichols have one each. With this lead Exeter, of course, is favored to win, and can only be tied if Moses Brown scores victories in every match which remains to be played.
The tournament will be continued this morning and afternoon. Players will report at 9 A. M. and matches will start at 9.30. Several matches scheduled for Saturday, but called off because of rain, remain to be played, beside the third round, fourth, semi-final and final rounds.
