FRESHMAN FOUR-OAR LOSES TO MIDDLESEX BY 3 LENGTHS

Fast Time in Race Over Half-Mile Course at Concord; Second Four a Winner.

Rowing an excellent race over the half-mile course at Concord, the Middlesex four-oar crew led the 1923 four-oar by three lengths in the race held Saturday; the second Freshman four defeated the third Middlesex crew by two-thirds of a length. The time of the first crew's race was very nearly the record for the course, as they crossed the finish line in 2 minutes and 44 seconds after the start. The Crimson quartet's time was 10 seconds slower. In the second race the 1923 four covered the course in 2 minutes and 57 seconds, while the Middlesex crew crossed the line two seconds later. Both the races were well rowed, the second crew in particular showing good form. The line-ups follow:

First 1923 Four.--Row, Tucker; 2, Westengard; 3, Collier stroke, J. W. Wood; coxswain, Lanman.

First Middlesex Four. Bow, Shattuck; 2, Hamilton; 3, Hollister; stroke, Cook; coxswain, Miller.

Second 1923 Four. Bow, Perkins; 2, Bramler; 3, Habicht; stroke, Thayer; coxswain, Little.

Third Middlesex Four. Bow, Bliss; 2, Burrell; 3, B. Atwater; stroke, C. Atwater; coxswain, Sears.
