WILL MEET UNSEASONED MAINE NINE AT FOUR

BOWDOIN GAME POSTPONED

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The game scheduled with Bowdoin yesterday was again postponed because of the cold weather. No practice was held, but Coach Slattery, R. W. Emmons, 3d, '20, and A. J. Conlon '22 went out to North Cambridge to see the University of Maine play Boston University.

After only one week of practice and two games, the Maine baseball team will this afternoon meet the University nine on Soldiers Field at 4 o'clock. Besides the handicap which the late spring has given it, the Pine Tree State aggregation started the season with only four men from last year's squad,--Sargent, Waterman, Walker, and Watson. Of these, Waterman is the only one who was in the line-up which last spring defeated the University, 9-8. The other members of this year's team have come up from the 1922 nine.

Defeated Colby, 10-6.

The nine received its first test a week ago Saturday when it defeated Colby, 10-6, by a last inning rally. In this game they played almost errorless ball although their batting was weak. Colby's defeat can in part be explained by the fact that they substituted an almost entire team in the last inning, when the score was 6-4 in their favor.

Playing Boston University on Russell Field yesterday, under arctic conditions, the Maine team showed itself weak at the bat. In the infield, Johnson, at the keystone sack, who made two errors and was completely fooled by the Boston base-runners, seemed to be the weak point in their defense. The outfield also contributed its share of errors, muffing two flys and being generally slow in covering bases.

Maine will put two of its strongest pitchers on the mound today against the Crimson batsmen. Watson and Jouette, both right handers, have good control and curves, although each lacks experience and the strength to last a game.
