UNIVERSITY BASEBALL SEASON OPENS TODAY

After two postponements the University nine will finally open its spring baseball season this afternoon at 4 o'clock when it meets the fast New Hampshire State College team on Soldiers Field. After nearly two months of practice, Coach Slattery is welcoming this opportunity to test the mettle of his team before they leave on their invasion of the South tomorrow. The game today will be particularly helpful to the team in that the New Hampshire pitcher, Sherwood, who gained a considerable reputation in scholastic baseball, circles, is a left hander, with speed and control. Hitherto the Crimson batsmen have had no opportunity to bat against an experienced southpaw.

Visitors Weak in Batting

Although the New Hampshire team is for the most part weak at the bat, in Bailey, Butler, and Broderick, the visitors hold a potent threat against the Crimson moundsmen. Bissonette, who is starting in right field is a pitching possibility which may be utilized. He has great speed and several puzzling curves.

In the University line-up R. A. Lancaster '20 will probably start the game behind the bat. Lancaster, who has a strong peg to second, is a new man in the University line-up.

Of the pitchers who will play tomorrow, all are experienced men. Harrison, in the few practice games this season has had a slight edge on the other two. In a game two weeks ago, using but few curves he struck out seven men in three innings.
