Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
To the Editors of the CRIMSON:
Coldness--or at least indifference--seems to be the prevailing attitude of our men toward their fellow students. This is not only my opinion, but is also the opinion of many with whom I talked.
I fully appreciate that in a large institution situated as Harvard is that it is impossible to get the degree of intimacy, the degree of college or fraternal spirit which is characteristic of, and possible in a small college; but I feel confident that that spirit can be developed here to a certain extent--and that the men and the college would benefit greatly thereby.
Any plan that had this end in view might be adopted--I offer here my suggestion:
Let the Student Council recommend to the proper authority that a certain day be designated as "Get-Together Day." On that day let the President and other members of the Faculty address the undergraduate body on the desirability--yes, the necessity of creating and maintaining this fraternal spirit. Let them urge (and request the different college publications to urge) that thenceforth each man speak to his fellow-student, whenever and wherever he meets him--whether in or out of the yard--but especially in the yard when going to and from classes. LUTHER W. SMITH '20.
