EIGHTS TO DRILL ON OPEN WATER MONDAY

SEND LAUNCH TO HARBOR

On Monday next the University crews will have their first practice on open water, in the Lynn harbor. Due to the fact that the Charles is unusually late in opening up, it has been deemed necessary to take advantage of the open water at Lynn rather than wait for the doubtful period when the river at Cambridge would be available for practice in the shells.

As the race at Annapolis is to be held on April 24, only a little more than six weeks away, it is imperative that the crews which are to race at that time have an opportunity to work in the boats. The unusual condition of the Charles this year is shown by the fact that last spring outdoor rowing was started on February 22.

Ship Three Shells to Lynn.

At present it is planned to take down three crews, the fist and second University, and the first Freshman. Two, and probably three, shells will be shipped to Lynn, where the West Lynn Boat club has given the use of its boathouse. A coaching launch will also be taken. The crews will go to Lynn each afternoon, probably on the Narrow Gauge line, until the roads are in better shape, when it is expected that automobiles will be used.

This plan is only a temporary make-shift, and it has been some years since the crews have had to resort to it. although in former years they have used the Farragut Boat Club's house, this year they are unable to do so because the snow crushed in the roof and made the boat house unfit for present use. As soon as the Charles is open, however, the crews will resume regular practice without the inconvenience of going to Lynn.
