Regular infield practice for the baseball team was held yesterday afternoon in the large Middlesex cage at Concord. The work-out consisted in fielding grounders and throwing around the bases; and due to the fact that the Concord diamond is of regulation size, Coach Slattery was able to size up his men with more accuracy than was possible in the Soldiers Field Cage.
Captain R. W. Emmonds 3d, '20 is now at second base and showed excellent team work with A. J. Conlon '22 at short-stop. A. B. Blair '21 has been shifted from his old positions behind the bat to first base, and E. C. Lincoln '22 is now holding down the hot corner. R. A. Lancaster '20 is regular catcher.
At the end of the two-hour practice, Coach Slattery remarked that the one workout in the large Middlesex cage had done more to develop the players than a week's work at the Soldiers' Field cage. Accordingly in spite of the difficulties of travel the infielders and battery men will continue to practice at Middlesex during the next two weeks while that school is having vacation.
The infield and catchers lined up as follows: Team A, Lancaster, c; Blair, 1b; Emmons, 2b; Lincoln, 3b; Conlon, ss; Team B, Murphy c; Bigelow, 1b; Mason, 2b; Shaw 3b; Roos, ss.
