Candidates for the CRIMSON from the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior classes will report at the CRIMSON Building on Plympton street at 7.30 o'clock on Thursday, February 12, when the annual competitions for the News, Editorial and Photographic Boards will begin. The competitions will last about 11 weeks. The next competition for the Business Department, open to Sophomores and Freshmen, will not begin until the first week in March.
The news competition is open to members of the classes of 1922 and 1923. This is the last opportunity for Sophomores to make the news board, and the first news competition open to Freshmen. The successful candidates will be elected to the board, and are eligible to become managing editor and president.
The work will consist largely of gathering and writing up news, and no previous journalistic training is required. It offers one of the best opportunities for building up a wide and intimate knowledge of all the activities of the University. Further details of the competition will be explained by the managing editor on Thursday evening.
Good Chance for Editorial Writers.
This spring it is planned to run the editorial competition on a slightly different basis from heretofore, by stressing the quality rather than the quantity of material handed in and published. Candidates will be expected to write two editorials a week at first, with a possible increase in the number later on in the spring, when the competition narrows down. There is an exceptional opportunity to make the board, as there are at present no members of the editorial department from the class of 1921. Four men are usually elected to this department from a class. Juniors only are eligible to compete in this competition, which offers them their last chance to make the CRIMSON.
In the photographic competition, which is open to members of the Freshman and Sophomore classes, election to the board will be made on the basis of the number of photographs published in the bi-weekly pictorial supplement. The photographic dark-room, with complete developing and printing equipment, will be available for use.
