32 ASPIRANTS REPORT FOR BATTERY PLACES

MANY 'H' MEN BACK

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yesterday afternoon the University batteries held their first practice in the Cage at Soldiers Field. Eight catchers and 24 pitchers reported. From the group some good material is available. Among the catchers the most promising men are A. Blair Unc., who was on last year's University squad, J. Murphy '22, who caught on last year's Freshman team, and T. H. Gammack '20, who won his "H" last season.

The remaining candidates all have had previous experience in preparatory schools. R. Lancaster '20 caught at Middlesex, C. F. Havermeyer '21 at Groton, G. McD. Weeks '21, at Milton, C. Stillman '22 at St. Mark's, and J. DeC. Scott '22 at Worcester Academy.

No Scarcity of Twirlers.

The competition in the pitching field bids fair to be closely contested. A good pitching staff is assured. The outstanding men at the present time are: C. L. Harrison Unc, who played in the game against Yale in 1916 which Harvard won, E. S. Hardell '21, F. K. Bullard '20, and W. B. Felton OcC, all won their "H" last season. E. F. Goode '22 won his. numerals on the 1922 nine. C. B. Butter-field '21, C. A. Clark OcC, H. S. Russell, E. S., B. Crockett, E. S., and S. H. Johnson '20 are promising men. W. G. Brocker '20, N. C.
