$1000 FIRE IN VARSITY CLUB

Furniture in Reception, Room Severely Damaged by Chemicals.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The short-circuiting of electric wires in the basemen of the Varsity Club yesterday noon started a fire causing a damage estimated at $1000 before it could be extinguished. The fire was discovered at 5.30 by an employee of the Union, which found the kitchen of the Varsity Club filled with smoke. The prompt response of the Fire Department to his alarm prevented the fire from reaching dangerous dimensions.

Starting in the inside of a wall in the kitchen, the flame worked its way up through a closet until it penetrated the floor of the pantry on the first floor. The furniture in the reception room at the right of the main entrance was badly damaged by the chemicals used in putting out the blaze.
