The employment of two assistants for Coach Slattery of the University baseball team has been authorized by the Athletic Committee and as a result the services of Claude B. Davidson, Brown 17, have been secured. Dr. William B. Young '13 is the choice for the other position, but as yet no agreement with him has been reached. It is expected that Dr. Young will be in charge of the Freshmen while Davidson will coach the second nine.
Eight years ago Young was one of the University catchers and in 1913 was the mainstay of the first team. After leaving the University he bent his efforts to developing a team at Winthrop High School, and there he showed peculiar ability in forming a strong battery as well as an all-round team.
Davidson went from Dorchester High and Volkmann Schools to Brown, where he played for two years at third base, and since then has been with the Athletics, the Cincinnati Reds, Washington, St. Paul, and New Haven.
