Handicapped by the loss of both regular guards through injuries, the University five last night succeeded in nosing out the Clark University quintet by a 26-24 score, netting the winning basket in the final seconds of play. The contest marked the resumption of intercollegiate basketball by the Crimson after a lapse of more than eleven years.
R. W. Fitts '23 and A. E. McLeish '23 were stellar performers for the University, registering three baskets each from play. Smith, center for the visitors, led his side, with a total of nine baskets. The game was marred by an injury to S. B. Chase '21, who was removed to the Stillman Infirmary with a wrenched knee and torn ligaments. T. C. McConnell '21 was responsible for the narrow margin of victory, shooting two double fouls in the final minutes of the game.
