DIRECTS SUMMER SCHOOL

John Tucker Murray '99, who is now instructor in English at Harvard, has been appointed Director of the Harvard Summer School for the current year.

Mr. Murray came originally from Truro, Nova Scotia. He was graduated from Dalhousie College in Nova Scotia in 1897, and later took the degree of A.B. at Harvard in 1899 and of A.M. in 1900. The next four years he spend teaching English at the University of Cincinnati.

Later he returned to Harvard for further graduate study, and in the year 1906-07 held a travelling fellowship which took him to England. He resided there for a number of years. When the war broke out he enlisted as a private in the British Army, became an instructor in the training of troops, and rose to the rank of captain. Since the war he has returned to this country, and at Harvard he now has charge of English 28, the Freshman course on the history of English literature.

Mr. Murray succeeds Professor Arthur F. Whittem, under whose administration the Harvard Summer School has had a notable growth in recent years. Last summer the school had an enrollment of over 1700.
