CRIMSON NEWS CONTEST TO START JANUARY 6

NEW REGULATIONS ADOPTED

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In accordance with several changes which have recently been made in the administration of the CRIMSON news competitions, the next competition for the news board will start on Thursday, January 6, the first Thursday after the reopening of College. This competition will be open both to Freshmen and Sophomores. The competition will last not more than twelve weeks.

Another important change in the conduct of the news competition is the almost complete abolition of night duty. Only enough work will be required downstairs to acquaint the candidates with the work they will do in the competition for the managing editorship. The purpose of this change is not to make the competition any easier, but to give the candidates more time to go after news. This will make the competition more interesting, and cover more thoroughly the news of the University. It is hoped that it will thus become a test of brains, alertness and perseverance, rather than an endurance contest.

Candidates Have Less Routine

The third change which has been accomplished is the assignment of editors on a special salary to the most important news sources, such as major sports, and the Union. This has resulted in the more thorough and satisfactory covering of this news, and by reducing the mass of work which the candidates must do, has given them a chance to open up new sources of news in the University.

The result of these changes, which have been tried out in this competition, has been a much more complete report of the activities of the University, opportunity for interesting signed articles, and a general increase of the benefits and interest in the competition.
