THE CRIMSON PLAYGOER

Eddie Leonard Again at Keith's

The San Carlo Grand Opera Company opened its brief Boston season at the Opera House on Monday with "Aida"--an ambitious undertaking for a limited company on a first night. Antiquated scenery, a badly trained ballet, and several voices that did not seem to have caught the Opera House range, were unfortunate blemishes on an otherwise interesting performance. Miss Rappold has a pleasing voice, well-enough suited to Aida; Mr. Valle's Amonasro was well sung, and Miss Cisneros gave a thoughtful reading of Amneris, if nothing more. Intelligent conducting by Mr. Peroni, and an evident sincerity on the part of the singers, were the best encouragement that subsequent programs will make up for what was missed in "Aida". As usual, the large Opera House was filled to capacity.
