OUTLINE PLANS FOR WINTER CREW WORK

BOATHOUSE TO CLOSE AT RECESS

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Compulsory rowing for Freshmen who have signed up for crew and voluntary rowing for members of the University squad is being held in the Newell Boathouse from 2 until 5 o'clock every week day except Saturday. Men on the University squad and the more experienced yearlings now in the tank while the other 1924 men are assigned to the matches which are placed before mirrors so that the oarsmen can watch their form as they row.

Coach William Haines is in charge of the blade work in the tank; Coach Herbert Haines instructs in body control and the fundamentals of rowing. At present about one hundred are on the Freshman squad and thirty-two on the University squad.

This indoor work will continue until the Christmas recess when the Newell Boathouse will close. Then there will be no more practice until after mid-years. Early in February, however, the candidates for all the crews will be called out and intensive training started at once, both on the machines and in the tank. As soon as weather conditions permit, probably in the middle of March, the crews will commence rowing in Lynn harbor and then on the Charles River when the ice breaks.
