The University Gym Team will begin its season Monday, when candidates will report at the Hemenway Gymnasium at 4 o'clock.
At the same time and place a competition for Assistant Manager will open and any members of the Junior or Sophomore classes who wish to try for such a position should report at this time, when the plans for the year and the details of the work will be discussed and explained.
Though Coach Hugo B. Seikel has some good material to begin with, he is particularly anxious to see more candidates for the tumbling, side horses, flying rings, horizontal bar, parallels and club swinging events. Freshmen, though they are ineligible for the team this year, are urged to come out and receive the great benefit of a season's work under expert coaching, while preparing themselves for exhibition work this year and a place on the team next year. If enough Freshmen are interested, a Freshman Team can be formed which will hold regular meets.
New apparatus has been purchased for the Gym team, and several changes made, by Mr. W. H. Geer, Director of Physical Education, in order that the work of the team may be more efficient than before.
With two "letter" men as a nucleus; with nine other last season men returning, most of whom were ineligible before; with the services of Coach Seikel again obtained and with a longer schedule than ever in view, the Gym team can look forward to an exceptionally successful season.
