H. L. COWLES SECURED TO COACH SQUASH TEAM

Mr. Henry L. Cowles, squash racquets instructor at the Harvard Club of Boston for the past seven years, will coach the University squash racquets team this winter. This arrangement has been made through the courtesy of F. W. Buxton '00, chairman of the Squash Racquets Committee at the Harvard Club, who has consented to permit Mr. Cowles to be at the University Squash Racquets Courts every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon from 2 until 4 o'clock to instruct the men.

At a conference yesterday afternoon between Mr. Geer, Mr. Cowles and Malcolm Bradlee '22, captain of the University Squash Racquets team, the general plans for the season were outlined. Two five-man teams, called A and B, will be formed as a result of an elimination competition. Then these teams will probably enter a league composed of A and B teams from various clubs and organizations around Boston. In addition, games will probably be played with other college teams late in the winter season.

Positions Open to Challenge

Men are at liberty to challenge the lowest ranking player on either team at any time and can win his position by defeating him in two consecutive games. A list of the men on the teams will be posted at the courts permanently and arrangements made for playing these challenge matches.

Mr. Cowles has had much experience as a squash racquets and tennis instructor. First, he was at the Casino in Newport, R. I.; then he was with the Boston Tennis and Racquets Club for six years and has now been engaged in coaching at the Harvard Club for the past seven years.

Two cups and a medal are offered by the University Racquet Club for squash tournaments. These trophies are now on exhibition in the window of Leavitt & Peirce's. One cup is to go to the winner of the annual Fall Squash Racquets championship, now being contested, while the medal will be presented to the runner-up. The other trophy will be awarded to any person winning two tournaments successively during the season.
