Yesterday's round between Smith and Standish Halls gave Gore Hall the Freshman Interdormitory Fall Tennis Championship. But four matches of the round were completed, Smith winning three of them. Since, however, Standish could do no more than tie Smith from that position, the remaining two matches were unnecessary to the final result. The contest between D. Stralem and L. H. Rouillion was particularly exciting, the first sets being closely fought through every game.
Several challenge matches, determining the order and substitutes of the teams, were played in preparation for the Interclass tournament, which starts Thursday. These preliminary rounds will be completed today, and the teams definitely announced.
The summary of the Interdormitory play: E. K. Davis, Smith, defeated A. C. Bliss, Standish, 6-0, 6-1; Wildes, Smith, defeated H. A. Bultman, Standish, 6-2, 3-6, 8-6; S. B. Rapport, Smith, defeated J. B. Squier, Standish, 6-3, 6-1; D. Stralem, Standish, defeated L. H. Rouillion, Smith, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1.
L. A. de Turenne '21 and M. Duane '23 won the finals of the Union doubles tournament yesterday by defeating J. Nef '20 and A. E. Kirk '20, 6-3, 9-7, 6-3. The winners were manifestly the better team, and won the first set readily. During the second set, Net and Kirk staged a rally which nearly gave them the set. Duane and Turenne came to the fore, however, and took that and the next set, winning the tournament.
