SMITH HALLS CAPTURES INTERDORMITORY MEET

Smith Halls walked away with the Freshman Interdormitory Cross-Country Meet held yesterday afternoon over part of the Cemetery Course. Smith Halls score was 20, with Gore, the nearest competitor, with a score of 56. Standish was last with 64.

R. M. Gilbert of Smith ran the three miles and a half in 20 minutes 50 seconds. A. L. Coburn of Standish finished a close second, and was immediately followed by E. Schaefer, W. C. Prescott and J. C. White, all of Smith. The first man to place for Gore was H. W. Hill, who got sixth place.

Smith was the only hall which was well represented in the race. Twenty-three men started, of whom 14 represented Smith. Gore had five men and Standish only four, lacking the one man necessary for a full team. If Standish had had a full team it stood a good chance of capturing second place.

The race was run over the Cemetery Course as far as the further end of the Metropolitan club race track on the Charles River bank, and then home along the road. The first four men to finish took the lead at the start and held it over the entire course. They finished well in advance of the fifth man. The race between the first four was very keen and ended with a spirited sprint.
