DR. McCARTY TAKES UNIVERSITY HARRIERS TO BELMONT COURSE

O'CONNELL TO TAKE 1924 CROSS-COUNTRY MEN OUT

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Dr. McCarty, the newly appointed cross-country coach, will take the Crimson harriers out to the Belmont course today at 2.45, while the 1924 runners will practice over the Cemetery Course under the leadership of Captain D. F. O'Connell '21 of the University track team. This will be the first stiff work-out of the season for both teams and will be the first real chance to get a line on the new material. A. J. Fox '22, who reported Wednesday, is expected to be a stellar performer this season.

Track Men Report

Less than 50 men reported yesterday for fall track and, according to the coaching staff, that number must be doubled at once if much progress is to be made during the short season of five weeks.

By the end of the week, however, many men of last year's squad will be in togs again and this fall's training, under W. J. Bingham '16 and Coach Eddie Farrell, should develop a nucleus for a far stronger team than the 1920 combination.

Strong Quartet for Dashes

Graduation took only four men last spring and the ineligibles of last season should more than make up for their loss. In addition, several 1923 men are expected to show University calibre next spring. E. O. Gourdin '21, C. B. S. Evans '22, J. E. Kennedy '23 and R. D. Howard '23 are a strong quartet for the dashes while Captain O'Connell, A. J. Fox '22, W. C. Bennett '23, R. N. Byran '23 and J. G. Winchester '23 will be strong contestants in the middle-distance and distance runs.

The field events and hurdles are rather uncertain now because many of the men are out for football.
