PLAN NATIONAL RIFLE SHOOT

GOVERNMENT TO OPEN MATCHES AT NAVY RANGE, CALDWELL, N. J., IN JULY.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Comfortable camping accommodations, good food, free rifle practice on one of the finest ranges in the country, and an opportunity to compete for a number of valuable prizes are the inducements offered to civilian marksmen by the U. S. government through the offices of the National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice.

Arrangement for the National Matches have now been completed, according to Lt. Col. William C. Harlec, of the U. S. M. C., executive officer of the matches for 1919. They will be held this year during the months of July and August at the Navy Rifle Range, Caldwell, N. J., jointly by the War and Navy Departments. All arms of the service,--army, navy, and marine corps, are co-operating in this effort to develop the rifleman's art and to disseminate the results among the civilians of America as well as the military services.

Will Maintain School of Instruction.

The events of this national series of rifle matches are open to all citizens. The occasion will be more than a series of contests, however, as a school of instruction and practice for the training of riflemen will be maintained at the camp.

Special attention will be given to the student contingents and it is expected that large numbers of students will plan to spend part of their summer vacation on the range. No permit or previous registration will be required. Arrangements will be made to receive any number of participants and to register them when they arrive on the grounds.

Accommodations will be provided in camp without any charge except for meals. For those desiring further information the National Board has prepared a booklet giving complete and definite instructions. Copies of this folder may be had upon request from the Executive Officer, National Matches, 1919, Room 1108, Woodward Building, Washington, D. C.
