1922 SHUT OUT BLUE FRESHMEN

HALLOCK, LINCOLN, AND CONLON SCORED IN THIRD INNING RALLY.

A batting rally in the third inning which netted three runs for the only scoring of the game gave the University Freshmen a 3-0 victory over the Yale yearling nine in their annual game played yesterday morning at Soldiers Field. The Crimson Freshmen showed weakness in the field, but their ability to hit in the pinches and the air-tight pitching of J. R. Meehan who gave only three hits brought about the defeat of the Eli team.

The visitors threatened to score in the third, sixth, and seventh inning, but in each case, their inability to hit with men on base, and the stiffening of the 1922 defense, left them scoreless. In the sixth, Yale filled the bases with none out, but fast work in the 1922 infield again prevented any Eli runner from crossing the plate.

The University Freshmen scored their three runs in the third inning when L. A. Hallock reached first on an error by the Eli third baseman. E. C. Lincoln walked, and A. J. Conlon drove them both in on a triple along the first base line. Conoln scored the third run when Warren, the Eli second baseman, juggled a fast grounder hit by S. R. Smith.

This victory closed the season for the Freshman nine, leaving them the satisfactory record of eight victories, two defeats, and one tie game. In all the Freshmen have scored 77 runs to their opponents 28. HARVARD 1922.   ab.  r.  bh.  po.  a.  e.
