CITATIONS FOR FORMER MEMBERS OF UNIVERSITY

Major General Robert Alexander '92, commander of the 77th Division, has announced the citation of Second Lieutenant Samuel Freedman '09, 305th Infantry, for bravery under fire. During the advance from the Aisne near Pincon Farm on September 7, 1918, when his company was obliged to fall back on account of heavy shelling, and after suffering heavy casualties in bringing his men from the field to their new position, with absolute disregard for his own personal safety, Freedman returned and directed the work of bringing in the dead and wounded, and in doing so was himself severely wounded.

Captain Robert T. P. Storer '14, 305th Field Artillery, whose promotion to major was recently announced, has also been cited for bravery by Major General Alexander. On September 6, 1918, while reconnoitering a forward position for his battery near Serval, Captain Storer, in company with Lieutenant Dellatre of the French Mission, passed outside of the American lines and carried on his reconnaissance until stopped by fire from German snipers that wounded Lieutenant Dellatre. Although under carefully directed fire and in grave danger, he attended the French lieutenant and remained with him for four hours until under cover of darkness he was able to help him to a place of safety. The information obtained by his reconnaissance was of great value to the artillery.
